A turn for the…..
It is always difficult to know how to break bad news about Aria and what we want people who read this blog to walk away thinking after reading these bad news posts cause we aren’t even sure ourselves.
Aria has taken a turn for the worse. Â Quite quickly and quite unexpectedly.
She is unstable. Â Her vent setting are very, very high and her blood pressure is very low and she is on a lot of medicine to keep it up. Â They took her to the OR this morning to rule out any holes or infection since they removed her drains yesterday. Â The surgeon came back and said everything is ‘pristine’ in there. Â Great news- we have never got a good report from a OR visit.
The current thought is that here is a virus or bacteria of some sort in her lungs.  We are hoping for a bacteria, although not resistant Pseudomonas.  If it is a virus it is going to be a long, long recovery period, weeks to months.
Her gases came back improved just now which is a great sign, they have been terrible since midnight. Â Her blood pressure is still up and down.
She is paralyzed with medication right now so she doesn’t fight all the treatments she is getting.
It has been a tough morning. Â It wasn’t a code situation but her heart rate dropped quickly along with her BP and O2 stats. Â The crash cart was next to her door and the chest compression board was under her. Â So we stood in the hall and watched the people pile in and work their cleverness.
This team is amazing, we have full confidence in their abilities and importantly their care and fondness for Aria. Â The nurse that had Aria last night worked a full 12 hour shift and still stayed an extra 2.5 hours this morning to help. Â Dedication is the theme of the staff here.
Is Aria very very sick? Â Yes she is. Â Will she recover? Â Yes very, very likely.
Thankfully Alex is home with Asher which allowed Hamish and I to go in to the hospital at 6am. Â For me I feel very, very strongly that God has laid on my heart a peace that Aria will live AND at the same time I knew this was coming. Â I knew there would be a bump like this. Â A peaceful knowing, a revealing from God to prepare me. Â Both of us are very very sad this has happened and trying to get through it.
Please pray for Aria and the diagnosis.  Pray she may heal quickly and may have a summer enjoying Omaha.
Aria is on TV in NZ this Sunday 8.30am channel one. Â The second part of her story covering the rejection and her fight post transplant.

I wish there were something to say, but there’s not, other than that Aria is a remarkable girl who is in remarkable hands. We are hopeful that she will come over this bump and be all the stronger for it.

Oh guys, what a horrible thing to happen for you. But, you sound so strong and calm and prepared Anita – you are in good hands both in the hospital and above. I’m sorry for you that her bump was so dramatic and huge but Aria is a superkid and she has shown many many times how she can come back and recover and blossom. Thinking of you and praying for you both and Aria. So good that Alex can release you both to be there for Aria. Hugs and love coming your way. xxx

Hi to the Macdonalds, and again, my admiration for your love and courage as you walk this journey with your wee darling Aria.
Setbacks must be so hard, and you prepare all of us for them, but they are still hard when they happen. Thanks for all you both do to keep us up to date with the news.

These bumps do happen… when my daughter had her BMT last year, she was told – ” we are going to make you better – but first we have to make you very sick” – a sad fact! You are so inspiring Anita – and I believe with you, that Aria will receive her healing and you are all going to be much stronger people, on a daily basis – as you continue to walk this journey! Oh no, what a shock, am kinda lost for words. But I do have this inner peace & feeling that she will fight thru it, jump the hump, & continue the way she has so far with this tansplant. So happy to hear that she is ‘pristine’ surgery wise. Aria being Aria has shown us before & she will show us again she can climb out of it. As you say Anita she is showing us that she still has hills to climb & keeping us on our toes, not to be too complacent in these early days.
Extra pleased that the staff to are on their toes to deal with whatever she throws at them.
Hang in there guys, you are just so awesome & amazing. This precious wee girl is not done with her fighting & surprises yet.
Stay strong for yourselves & this amazing incredible precious little gem.

Sending hugs and prayers your way. You know we’re not just here for the good news, but for all the news. The cheerleaders need to know when they are needed. As Viv said, we do want to know all the news, even when it’s hard. I personally check my email at least once or twice every day, specifically to see if there is an update about Aria. Just know that there are so many people praying for you, you are a wonderfully strong family. This is such a huge journey your family is on, may God keep comforting you throughout it.

This little girl has things to do on earth and it is not her time to leave. She has such strength, as do her parents. You are an amazing family and you are always in my thoughts. Makes me proud to be a kiwi when I see the battles you fight for beautiful Aria.
