This is the second post today. Â In case you missed the first long rambling one click HERE.
There was an air of disappointment amongst everyone this morning.  Aria had not made the same improvements overnight and in fact she has slipped back a bit.  Worst though the sensitivities for the Pseudomonas had come back.  Thankfully we still have an ABX group to use but they are harsh on the kidneys which are already struggling.  There was also serious talk of her going on the oscillator this afternoon.  Her vent setting are very very high and actually going on the oscillator wouldn’t be a bad thing.  But it is just not nice and it a serious sign of a patients condition in my mind.
Rounds were ok.  It was hard actually because everyone was talking bad news and I just stood there and absorbed it all.  I have learnt now with certain people you just say yes yes and don’t ask questions and don’t speak unless spoken too.  Particularly when you are getting bad news cause if I speak I could cry and I am NOT crying in front on hospital staff (well only the chosen few).  You know when surgeons hold your eye contact for ages they are trying to read your face to see if you are ok but I just battled on.
ANYWAY. Â This afternoon Aria’s o2 stats were dropping to 94/95. Â Not good. Â Her min volume on the vent was 2.8- not good. Â Her gases were not good. Â Oh dear- oscillator it is. Â They disconnected her from the vent and bag suctioned her and got a bunch of yuck out of her lungs and she improved a bit. Â But if the next gas was still bad the ICU doc was on his way in to start the oscillator. Â Bummer.
So Hamish and I went outside into the hot and humidity and talked and prayed.  Serious prayer.  Please avoid the oscillator (and dialysis- that is still on the table) for Aria but YOUR WILL BE DONE.  Give us strength to cope.
What do you know- we got back to an improved gas result O2 of 99 and Min vol of 3.9! Â Wow and that trend continued to when we left the min vol was 4.1! Â Just rang at 8pm and they are thinking of going down on her vent settings!
You must know that prayer works- God listens. Â He is still here, hearing us and loving Aria.

Wow that is so good. She is such an amazing little girl, one minutes it is really bad and then she just bounces back slightly but that is good. There are going to be a few steps forward and then a heap back but remember every little bit helps. She is sooooo stong with what she has already gone thru and she is one determined little girl. She is going to show everyone that life is good.

Praise God for improvement! May there be more! May He multiply those little loaves and fish of improving gas results. I am so blessed by yours and Hamish’s faith, Anita. I will pray for continued improvement for Aria, and continued strength for you and Hamish.

You are on one heck of a rollercoaster ride for sure, you guys – and you are doing so well… Of course you will have your moments of watching, and not wanting to talk to the staff or let them see you feeling like you can’t cope…and – being ‘the workers’ they will sometimes forget that everything they say and do is being watched and absorbed by you – making you indeed feel like you won’t want to hear anymore, I am sure! I saw you on “Attitude” yesterday morning and I was so touched by your strength of character, you growing faith and your determination to hold together for Asher also. To keep things normal for him… and you are doing that so well too, from what I saw. What you are enduring is something noone should have to.. and seeing how much your little girl is putting up with (on camera) was a real tear jerker for me too…however, these people are there for you and working to keep Aria alive and make her better – so I am sure you also truly appreciate that and know that God is using them to heal her. It was lovely to see you have a friend there who has been through it with her little girl – someone to look at, and marvel at – and believe with many that one day Aria will be as well as she is…sending you love and prayers xo

There definitely is power in prayer and I will continue to keep all of you in my thoughts and prayers. It was SO great running into you this afternoon! (an answer to prayer, perhaps?! 😉 ) It was very nice to have time for a little faith sharing conversation 🙂 After reading this, I realized that we didn’t actually talk about Aria much, but it is great to read that she is doing better this evening. I don’t know you all personally and in a lot of ways feel like an imposter, sort of listening in on your ongoing unimaginable journey. But I can only admire and be amazed by the way you have faced the most difficult decisions and situations that any parent can be asked to with dignity, courage and honesty. How incredibly difficult it all must be. I am a former paediatric nurse, so understand a bit about the medical side of things. I stumbled upon Aria’s website when I was pregnant with my first boy around 3 years ago… Haven’t been following your progress until a couple of weeks ago when had a random thought of Aria (a beautiful name one doesn’t forget easily 🙂 So I found your website again and have been following your posts daily. I must tell you your faith is so inspiring! You’re a family of such tremendous strength and courage. Our God is a truly awesome God, I want to thank you so much for reminding us that he is God and in control no matter what our situation. Thank you so much for sharing about all your ups and downs, all your words are faith-building words. My little boys and I will continue to pray for Aria daily. Much love, hugs to all.

You guys are incredibly strong, I know there ain’t nothing we wouldn’t do for our children, but still, you never fail to amaze me and inspire me. I’ve been following for weeks now – go Aria go! She is truly a blessing, and I am humbled reading the journey that Aria and you (her family) are travelling. Yes, God is good – a hard journey to read, a harder journey to travel, but Aria is a story of hope, and love.
