Valentines Day
The MacDonald’s celebrated Valentines Day yesterday. Â The highlight was seeing three groups of our friends! Â We unexpectedly saw our friends Elaine and Issac at the Zoo. Â Yes, finally the weather here has been decent enough to be outside and we raced out the door! Â We had a really fun time.
Next we delivered a little Valentines Day gift to our friends Brad, Stephanie and Megan.  Later Carol and Cordell came over and Hamish and I enjoyed a Valentines Day date!  What a great day.  The kids had fun writing little Valentines Day cards. I really, really like the American version of this holiday, it is about love, all types of love.  What’s not to celebrate about that?  Our friends are special people to celebrate too.
Aria is doing ok. Â We are currently stuck at 20mls an hours on her feeds. Â Her outputs go up and down each day. Â The lowest being 800 in 24 and the highest being 1200. Â Today they are trending down again so we hope to get up to 30mls and 14 hours of TPN. Â But overall we are encourged because what is coming out looks digested whereas previously it looked like water and curdled milk. Â Sorry TMI but my transplant mum friends will get it.
Aria skin is still pretty terrible. Â Last night I coated her in thick white cream, you couldn’t see her skin. Â She woke up this morning looking a bit better but still very flaky and dry.
With managing her outputs, trying to get cream on her and her nunu (ostomy) falling off 2+ times a day it makes for tense times in our house. Â Thankfully her current nunu has lasted over 24 hours! Â Wow. Â The cream is the biggest issue and she hates it, hence why I do it while she is asleep! Â And the fact Hamish and I are up 6+ times a night! Â And today is bath day for Aria. Â Sigh.
Clinic tomorrow so looking forward to that and hopefully getting some progress.

Emma Abrahams says:Hey Anita,
I’ve been thinking about Aria heaps lately and wondering whether you could source milk kefir grains to make kefir smoothies for her (when she’s able to eat). That would help that precious gut of hers do its business.
Kefir is a little-known food that is wonderful for us. If Aria were to drink it, it would replenish her gut with good bacteria, pushing out any infections and helping to nourish her well.
You’re probably aware that every time she has antibiotics, it kills all the bacteria in her gut – both good and bad. Drinking kefir would make sure it is good bacteria that grows back in her gut, rather than the bad, infection-causing bacteria.
Here’s one site I’ve found that sells the grains over there:
http://www.culturesforhealth.com/starter-cultures/kefir-cultures.html
And here’s a link to a post I wrote about kefir:

Oh, and the good thing about kefir is,once you have the grains, you’re set. They will keep making kefir from there on in for you when mixed with milk.
I hope that helps.
Love Emma

Cousins Kathleen & Anita says:We agree! Love is for celebrating. In Colombia we have the “Day of Love and Friendship” in September. We celebrated it all through the years we were bringing up our family of Colombian boys and girls. Very special.

Samantha Sutherland says:I feel for you – it is hard pushing things on the kids that are not ‘life-saving’ treatments isn’t it! You know the cream will help tho so I am glad you are persevering. Valentines sounds fun over there. Hoping for a great clinic for Aria.

Tiffany Keller says:It sounds like you had a great time talking with friends, & having fun with just you & Hamish on Valentine’s Day. 🙂 Valentine’s Day can be fun for the most part, but for someone who is single (like me) it still has a little bit of a stigma.
I’m glad to hear that Aria’s outpts are etting a little bit better. Hopefully, her skin will heal soon too. I hope your whole family has a great da tomorrow! God Bless!
