Good outcomes - Aria MacDonald

Good outcomes

Today was a really tough day.

Aria had her 10th surgery and we had a big meeting with the ‘Powers that Be’ at UNMC AND poor Hamish had ‘tear your hair out’ time at the DMV trying to get the car registered this morning

Aria’s surgery went well and we are thankful for the outcome.  There was no hole as such in her bowel but because her body is slow to heal there was tiny leaks between about 1/4 of the stitches from the OR trip on Friday.  So not ideal but no tear and the surgeon was able to reinforce the stitches.

Hamish and I had two choices about how we were going to handle the whole ‘lost organs’ business.  We could hire lawyers and spill our guts to the media to hurt UNMC like they have hurt us.  OR we could sit them down and talk and tell them about our experiences at UNMC.  I can’t be bothered posting a password post but things here haven’t been easy we hoped by sharing something positive might come from it for other families.  The meeting was very very hard and took a massive amount of courage.  Not to make it sound like we are amazing courageous people but we HAD to do something, even hard, to turn this into good.

Thank you to everyone for your love and prayers today.  We are so grateful.

Please keep praying for Aria’s healing.  This is our primary request.

So pleased to hear Aria’s surgery went well…. I personally think ‘courageous’ is a most wonderful word to describe your family…. You continue to meet every challenge head on and work through it together as a family, that is very courageous.
Love to you all and prayers for Aria.

Keep thinking and praying for that wisdom, attitude and spirit that Jesus would have if He was in your situation. He will make it clear and give you the strength to do and be His children even in this dark pit. WE keep praying. Love Nola

I really hope that the meeting today left you with some way to move forward in a positive way. I don’t know how you both found the energy for such an intense discussion on top of all the things you are coping with right now, but well done. The hospital is pretty lucky that you are such lovely people. I hope they recognise this. Bless Aria on her tenth surgery, she is such a strong wee girl. I hope Ashie enjoyed his big day out to the zoo and that you two are taking regular breaks for yourselves to rest and heal too. Much love xxx

its so unfair that you have to deal with this added rubbish on top of watching Aria fighting this battle of survival. Hope that it will soon be put in the past and a bad memory only. Personally i think you should be compensated for all the extra stress this has caused. Am praying for Aria and praying for your strength and serenity and to stay well. Hugs

Awesome that things went well in the surgery..

was reading the previous post and while the idea of a tracheostomy sux there is an advantage to it… that as they start weaning form the ventilator you can put a special speaking valve on the end of the trache, which is kinda cool…

as always we’ll continue to pray for you all and little miss Aria, and i really hope things go well and that this meeting didn’t just fall on deaf ears

AMAZING & COURAGEOUS are really the perfect words to describe you all, not only for the current situation but for the last 3 1/2yrs.
The courage & strength you show is awesome.

Altho a lawsuit is a natural instinct in such a situation of unacceptable medical carelessness, I worry that it could backfire on the way you all are treated there esp Aria’s care & treatment. With letting the hosp know how hurt & angry you are at their negligence over a simple request surely will make them be more careful in the future & some other family could be spared the anguish you both are going thru.

So hard on you being so far away from home & families friends & support. It warms my heart the friends that have been put in your path to assist there with the different cultuter, lifestyle & probs. PTL for those people.

Love to you all, you are awesome
